Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been tipped to win the 2023 presidential elections.

This was the position of former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Christopher Ekpenyong, in a recent interaction with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

According to the Senator, Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the most experienced, most favoured and most trusted to take up the reins of presidential power in 2023.

He said the candidate's strong footing in the north, PDP's resurgence in the South West, and party's strength in the South South and South East will propel the presidential dream to fruition.

Furthermore, the senator reacted to the protracted crisis in the PDP triggered by the aftermath of the presidential primary.
Ekpenyong said the dissatisfaction expressed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and four other PDP governors was ill-founded and lacking in merit.
According to him, his party did right to nominate Atiku Abubakar.
"It's normal, power is not gotten on a platter of gold. Let me address the issue of the five PDP governors you are talking about. For APC, they had their way and I applaud them because they were following laid down processes. They said 'look, when Buhari from the north governs for 8 years, it will go to the south.'

"We are in the South, in 1999, when we formed the PDP, by the grace of God, we got the mandate of the people.
The president came from the South West, the Vice President came from the North. Our (PDP) constitution, I don't know if they have amended it, says the presidency shall rotate between the north and south. When Obasanjo finishes it is going to the North, Yar'adua did only two years. After Yar'adua's passage, the national assembly applied the doctrine of necessity, so Vice President Goodluck Jonathan became a full-fledged acting president for the next two years, then he contested election and won. The northerners said, 'no, go back to our constitution, that it spells out that it shall rotate between north and south.' The north has done only 2 years in our party. If we want the party to work, there should not be skirmishes, we should ultimately allow the north to fill in a candidate.

"We did set up a committee to go and do zoning. The committee chairman was Governor Ugwanyi of Enugu State. I had thought he was going to zone it to the South East but he threw it open. Those guys who are now against Atiku should not be talking, those guys are plotting a graph. If Atiku Abubakar does not win the presidency, none of them will win election because the north calls the shot. I even appreciate and applaud Governor Udom Emmanuel for not joining them and being independent mind. If five governors are refusing to campaign, Atiku will win elections in their respective states. Nothing can stop Atiku from getting 25% in Rivers State no matter how Wike tries, Wike is not God. Those governors are all beneficiaries of PDP. Iyorchia Ayu, myself, Atiku, Obong Etiebiet, Obong Attah, were all there at Akili Hall when the PDP was formed. Where were those five governors? They should be grateful to the PDP," he explained.

He advised the electorate that a vote for the PDP in 2023 will help rectify the nation's woes. He also cautioned voters against engaging in thuggery and accepting cash for votes.
