There was an outpour of joy and appreciation by patients at Leprosy Hospital, Ekpene Obom, Etinan Local Government Area on Friday as the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Etinan State Constituency, Barr Paul George, visited with foodstuffs, other gift items and cash, to celebrate Christmas with them.

Barr George who saluted their strong will and courage in spite of their debilitating condition, urged them to continue hoping on God for sustenance and change in their fortunes.
He however explained that God can only intervene through kind leaders and persons inclined to philanthropy.

Drumming support for the governorship candidate of his party, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Barr George described him as man whose antecedents and track-record qualify him as the best for the job.

Also vouching for himself and other candidates of the YPP, the assembly hopeful assured the inmates that the centre will witness massive infrastructural upgrade to the standard set by missionaries who established the hospital.

Barr George particularly assured them that a vote for the YPP will translate into the liberation and prosperity of Akwa Ibom State.

Etinan chapter chairman of the party, Hon. Nkese Ekpot also expressed dismay over the poor facilities and welfare at the centre.
According to him, YPP will change the situation and put smiles on the faces of the inmates.

Obong Nse Frank, the political leader of Etinan Urban 4 also recalled that the centre was very prestigious in bygone years, wondering why the government in power has left it in ruins.

Reacting, a staff of the hospital, Mrs Rose Udoh thanked the delegation for the gesture, stressing that it has made the inmates feel the joy of Christmas.

Speaking on behalf of the inmates, Mr Udoro Ntiedo Akpan labelled their situation as distressing and depressing. He implored Barr George to make a law for the upgrade of the hospital and other health facilities in the state, if elected in 2023.

Other inmates equally decried their poor welfare and living conditions.

Earlier in the day, the candidate's delegation paid a consultative visit to Ndon Eyo community in Etinan Urban Ward 4.
The event which had huge turnout of villagers, witnessed a declaration of unalloyed support for the YPP.

The candidate promised that under a YPP administration, Ndon Eyo will have social amenities.

His delegation also had the deputy chapter chairman of YPP, Hon. Kenneth Okon; chapter secretary, Elder Itohowo Essien; Director General of the campaign, Hon. Uduak Ekwere and several others.
