Security Agencies, Akwa Ibom State Government should stop Impostor Linus Inyang
By Erikan Itah Inyang
There is a very serious need for an impostor to be stopped in his tracks. He should no longer be allowed to stoke hate and disaffection in Anua Offot community in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
For a couple of years now, Mr Linus Inyang, the self-appointed "village head-elect" of the community, has displayed flagrant disregard and disrespect for the traditional stool which he inordinately wishes to mount.
Even when kingmakers of the village, the Anua Offot Village Council, the Offot Ukwa Clan Council and the Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, and the Uyo Traditional Rulers Council have all ratified Eteidung Patrick Enefiok Ibanga as the bonafide village Head-elect, Inyang is goaded on by a some alien political figures who seek to reward him for being a 'loyal' land sale's agent and auctioneer. One who has earned notoriety for land-grabbing should be rewarded with another offer, certainly not village headship.
The violence which has trailed the tussle had since to come to an end, yet he doesn't want to face reality.
A little over a week ago, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, members of the Offot Ukwa Clan Council and village heads of the Offot Ukwa Clan villages visited the community to on a royal tour - an event that symbolically meant the reaffirmation of Eteidung Patrick Enefiok Ibanga as the bonafide village head-elect of Anua Offot people.
Days later, Mr Linus Inyang, in his usual manner apparently launched a counter action by issuing orders to members of the community to embark on door-to-door campaign for the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He didn't give the laughable order during a village council meeting because he lacks the wherewithal to convene such; he only announced it during a political meeting attended by just six PDP chaps in Uyo Ward 7. He said the endorsement of Umo Eno is the unanimous position of Anua Offot people.
Desperation has apparently pushed Inyang into hallucination, as observed by some members of the community. They say he occasionally wears a crown and royal robe to trek round the community, muttering in vernacular 'I am the Chief, nobody can stop me, over my dead body.' Such impudence!
The endorsement order coming from such a character wouldn't make anyone lose sleep but given the mounting embarrassment it has caused the community plus the violence often caused by some hired thugs, it is high time the drama is ended.
Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Hon. John James Etim, an indigene of the community, in his speech during the Paramount Ruler's visit, assured the royal father that he would communicate the community's verdict to the Governor, adding that it is a community that chooses a king, that no king appoints himself.
Mr Linus Inyang should bow to common sense. No man is greater his community.
Security agencies and the Akwa Ibom State Government have a task at hand - Anua Offot should not be allowed to slide into anarchy.
The unrest of recent years should not be allowed to reoccur.
