NANS Zone B demands immediate end of ASUU Strike
The South-South Zone (Zone B) of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government to reach a common ground in order for academic activities to resume immediately after an eight month long strike action.
The association while making its stand known during a world press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, passed a vote of confidence on the Worldwide President of NANS Comrade Usman Barambu led administration for a job well done in bridging the gap between federal government and the academic staff Union of universities (ASUU)" and reaffirmed "total stand by calling on the ASUU body to honour the court order of reopening the institutions as we equally call on the federal government to as a matter of urgency subscribe to the demands of ASUU."
The association via the press statement which was read by the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Kings Tamarapreye warned that they would not hesitate to continue occupying federal government establishments if their appeal is not heeded.
They also solicited for the fixing of federal roads in the South-South region by the federal government in order to reduce road accidents.
The statement further reads:
"We call on the federal and state government to place emphasis on the proper funding of the educational sector. In all the 6 states of the South South Region. Consequently NANS ZONE B Executive insist that UNESCO recommendation of 26% allocation to education by all developing nations should be adhered to. In the light of saving the educational sector, we hereby call all the executive Governors of the South South Region to implement this forthwith, So as to encourage proper funding of our educational sector.
"In the advocacy of saving our lives and the educational sector of the South South Region, NANS ZONE B call on all Nigerian students to participate massively in bringing the true change we desire, As leadership of the zone we hereby urge all students to vote rightly and also elect candidates that have genuine love for Nigerian students and truly have the cause of education revitalization.
"In line with our activities today, as the apex students union body in ZONE B' we hereby also congratulate the National coordinator PDP WARD2WARD Nigeria Mrs, Adah Fredrick Okorie for all she is doing in nation building,we encourage you Ma. To our commander, patriot, father and leader to the entire students union community in ZONE B' and Nigeria in general, Hon. Comr. Onengiye Leonard, we say a very big Congratulations on your emergence as the coordinator PDP WARD2WARD SOUTH-SOUTH ZONE Nigeria. This is a testament to your hard work and dedication to sundry duties we are therefore optimistic that you will certainly deliver in this task of Rescuing Nigeria,We are sure because you stand tall amongst other comrades within the Zone we will stand by you in all you do for the prosperity of our dear nation at large."

Comrade Dio Oghale Emeka Rex, Deputy Coordinator; Comrade Ekanem Utibe, PRO; and other executive members of the zonal body of the association.
