Akwa Ibom @35: Let's pursue sustainable development - Akanimo Udofia
Akwa Ibom people have been urged to work collectively in pursuit of genuine and sustainable development as Akwa Ibom State clocks 35.
This was handed down by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Akanimo Udofia in a personally-signed felicitation message to the state and her people.
The frontline governorship hopeful labelled the anniversary as a significant milestone, adding that "it is also a good time for soul searching with a view to determine projections for our future and the Akwa Ibom of our dreams."
According to him, to attain sustainable and genuine development, the state must translate her "blessing and natural endowments to shared prosperity for our people."
He acknowledged that Akwa Ibom State, apart from being blessed with human resources, is "home to about 36% of Nigeria’s natural gas reserves. With about 31.4% of Nigeria’s oil reserves, we are also a leading state in crude oil production in the Country. Our vast arable land with rich, fertile soil and favourable climate are suitable all-year round for food and cash crop production. Vast freshwater and saltwater bodies around the State hold an abundance of numerous varieties of fish and other sea food."
Udofia suggested that "we need to tackle unemployment, provide quality education, and increase access to healthcare- three cardinal human development indices."
Furthermore, he acknowledged the legacies of founding fathers of the state, saying "the progress and achievements of the last thirty-five years is a product of those who have gone before us."
He saluted "all distinguished sons and daughters of our dear State who have excelled in various fields including sports, entertainment, and creative arts, as well as several other spheres of human endeavours."
