Adaha Ibibio congratulates Umana on ministerial appointment

A frontline sociocultural group, Adaha Ibibio (Ibibio Elders Forum) has congratulated Obong Umana Okon Umana on his appointment as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group in a congratulatory message jointly signed by its Chairman, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Akpanobong, and Secretary General, Citizen Matthew K. Okono appreciated the President for his choice of Umana whom they described as one of the most astute technocrats, brilliant, result-oriented and disciplined sons of Akwa lbom state, southern Nigeria and Ibibio race."

The group noted that "as an epitome of exceptional service delivery devoid of unnecessary fanfare and controversies" Obong Umana has remained a pride to the Ibiblos, Akwa lbom State and Niger Delta Region as a whole.

They also asserted that via the appointment, "Mr President has put a square peg in a square hole."

"We have no iota of doubt that you will bring your monumental wealth of experience and exemplary personal character of integrity, productivity and humility to bear in the discharge of the huge responsibilities of repositioning the ministry to intentionally impact the people of the Niger Delta Region, particularly, at this crucial transition period," the message further stated.

Obong Umana Okon Umana, a member of the Adaha Ibibio, was until his latest appointment, the Managing Director, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA).

Akwa Ibom Stakeholders reject Water Resources Bill

Citizen M.K.O A group of Akwa Ibom stakeholders comprising of traditional rulers politicians, academic dons, entrepreneurs, clerics, students and persons from other fields of endeavours have rejected the controversial Water Resources Bill. Converging at the auditorium of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council in Uyo, over the weekend the stakeholders, in a communique issued at the end of extensive deliberations featuring clause-by-clause analysis of the Bill, dismissed the Bill, describing it as oppressive and exploitative. The bill which was initially introduced and later rejected by the lawmakers during the 8th Assembly following public outcry, was reintroduced in the current 9th National Assembly in 2020.
