Global audience awaits Emily Nkanga's documentary on Oku Ibom Ibibio
On Friday, international cinematographer, Emily Nkanga was at the Ikot Ukobo palace of the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council to shoot a pictorial and video documentary.
The monarch, Ntenyin Dr Solomon Daniel Etuk is the supreme traditional ruler in Akwa Ibom State, and is the patriarch of the Ibibios who are the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria, only behind Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.
Emily Nkanga and her crew captured the royal procession of the king, the king's throne adorned with traditional artifacts, messengers and guards, as well as personal shots of the Oku Ibom.
Emily Nkanga, who originally hails from Ikot Nya, Nsit Ibom in Akwa Ibom State, is renowned for her works on contemporary African culture.
She thanked the monarch for availing her crew and her the privilege of shooting the documentary.
She hinted that the documentary will help promote African culture, stressing that the traditional institution in Africa must always be showcased globally.
The documentary is part of her project codenamed Unyọñ Ufok (homecoming). Some of the images are currently on display in Soho, Central London.
Furthermore, she divulged that the global audience is eagerly anticipating the documentary on the Oku Ibom Ibibio.
On his part, the monarch said she has brought glory to Nsit people and Akwa Ibom State.
"I have not witnessed this level of expertise and professionalism for a very long time. I am glad that this is being done by one of my daughters. You have brought glory to your fatherland. I wish to assure that the palace will encourage all you do," he stated.
He prayed for continuous success in her chosen career.
Emily is the daughter of former military governor of Akwa Ibom State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga of blessed memory.
