My administration will salvage Akwa Ibom from poverty -Akan Udofia

Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Akanimo Udofia has promised that his administration would prosper the state by ensuring that resources are equitably distributed.

Speaking in Uyo on Saturday during the inauguration of his campaign organization, Udofia said the state, for about 8 years, has largely retrogressed, and assured the people that he is poised to rescue the state.

He said given the quantum of human and natural resources, Akwa Ibom State should be a very prosperous entity.

According to him, the poor rating of the State in the poverty charts boils down poor leadership and poor  management of the state's resources.

Obong Udofia promised that under his philosophy of 'shared prosperity', the Akwa Ibom commonwealth shall be controlled by the people, not a selected few.

"I am not being boastful but I have to say that God has blessed me. I want prosperity to go round. Akwa Ibom resources shall be managed and enjoyed by the people. As Governor, I will not interfere with the management of Local Government funds. Money will go round, jobs shall be created, our women shall be empowered, businesses boosted and poverty fought and defeated.

“To bring about shared prosperity, we will take bold and innovative steps to address the challenges that our people face. We need to creatively invest in education, infrastructure and job creation, so that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. We need to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare, and that we provide support to those who are struggling to make ends meet," he promised.
Furthermore, he said his administration would grant full autonomy for Local Government.

He added that his party is fortunate to have a presidential candidate in the mould of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, whom he said has over the years demonstrated expertise in achieving results through proper management of resources.

Udofia thanked leaders and members of the party for being resolute in protecting the interest of the party at all times.
This he said would culminate in victory for the APC at the polls.

Piracy: Economic activities crippled as fishermen quit Ibaka sea in protest

Economic activities in the fishing community of Ibaka in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been shut down following incessant cases of attacks by sea pirates in the area. The assailants on Thursday stormed the Ibaka sea, attacking the fishermen and capturing up to 9 outboard engines of fishing boats. Following the incident, the Ibaka community directed fishermen and operators of businesses in the fishing community to down tools for three days. The action which started on Thursday, has now entered its second day. Thursday's attack came on the heels of similar ones in the past years and months.  Outcry by the fishermen for security agencies to properly secure the sea, has always fallen on deaf ears. A distraught fisherman who spoke with newsmen called on the police to probe the relationship between the leadership of the fishermen union and the pirates. Akan Okon vs. Umo Eno: Prof Jideoni petitions security agencies against blogger for libel

Professor Jideoni Charles, a Professor of Professor of Graphognomy (Handwriting Analysis), Professor of English Language, and a linguist, has petitioned security agencies against an Uyo based blogger, Wisdom Bassey, over alleged libel. Prof Jideoni had carried out forensic investigation into the West African Examination Council certificate tendered by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Umo Eno, before the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, in his case against governorship aspirant, Mr Akan Okon, and adjudged same as unoriginal. The petition, as sighted by newsmen over the weekend, condemned a "damaging false report carried out by one Mr Wisdom Bassey who works online with Newsline9ja.com on the account of slander and libel against me in a newspaper publication by GLOBAL PILOT earlier this year."
