Uyo Mechanic Village Crisis: Panel of Enquiry begins Hearing Monday

The Administrative Panel of Enquiry set up by the Uyo Local Government Council on the Uyo Mechanic Village Crisis shall commence public hearing on Monday, October 10, 2022.

According to a media release issued by the panel and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Rev. (Barr.) Victor Akpan and Edem Nsa, Esq., the hearing will hold at Uyo Local Government Council Hall from 8:00am.

The panel constituted vide Section 48(1) of the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Administration Law 2017 (as amended), directed a number of persons, institutions and bodies to appear before it unfailingly at the hearing.
The invited persons are: the Departmental Security Officer (DSO), Uyo Local Government Council; the Chairman, Uyo Mechanic Village Union; the Vice Chairman I, Uyo Mechanic Village Union; the Vice Chairman II, Uyo Mechanic Village Union; the victim, Mr Douglas Ime Udo; the alleged offender, alias 'The Boy is Good', and Mr Etop John James, who is Douglas' master; the owner of the canopy space occupied by 'The Boy is Good'; the Village Head, Afaha Offot, Uyo; the Representative of the C- Divisional Police Command, Aka Offot, Uyo; and the medical doctor handling the treatment of Douglas Ime Udo.

The panel also directed that interested members of the public wishing to submit Memoranda should do so not later than
Monday, October 10, 2022 by 12:00 noon.

"The Panel requires 12 typed copies of such Memoranda, appropriately addressed and forwarded to the Chairman, Administrative Panel of Enquiry, C/o Office of the Head of Legal Services, Uyo Local Government Council, No. 1, Uyo Village Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. 

The Panel requires all persons appearing before it to be punctual and civil, as decorum shall be duly enforced," it further stated.

The statement further added that "the Panel is committed to discharging its mandate with due diligence without fear or favour in accordance with enabling laws."

It could be recalled that automobile spare parts and repairs market was recently embroiled in crisis in what was later traced to a case of two-man fighting.

The Uyo Local Government Council immediately swung into action ordering its closure to forestall further consequences. 

The market has remained closed since the incident on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Members of the Panel of Enquiry have since visited the market to assess its situation state.

Akan Okon vs. Umo Eno: Prof Jideoni petitions security agencies against blogger for libel

Professor Jideoni Charles, a Professor of Professor of Graphognomy (Handwriting Analysis), Professor of English Language, and a linguist, has petitioned security agencies against an Uyo based blogger, Wisdom Bassey, over alleged libel. Prof Jideoni had carried out forensic investigation into the West African Examination Council certificate tendered by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Umo Eno, before the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, in his case against governorship aspirant, Mr Akan Okon, and adjudged same as unoriginal.
