Akwa Ibom APC has no Governorship candidate, Ita Enang insists
2023 governorship hopeful in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Ita Enang has again corroborated Independent National Electoral Commission's position that the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is yet to have a governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.
It could be recalled that a fortnight ago, the electoral body issued a list of governorship candidates of the APC in respective states of the federation, with 'TBD' meaning 'To Be Decided' written on Akwa Ibom's column on the list.
Senator Ita Enang, the immediate past Senior Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, while addressing his people at his Ididep hometown over the weekend said the development is as a result of the unlawful and inordinate declaration of Mr Akanimo Udofia as the flagbearer by the Stephen Ntukekpo led state executive committee of the party.
He confirmed that his legal team is pursuing the case in court.
"I want to say that there was no nomination by APC in Akwa Ibom State to choose a gubernatorial candidate, that is why we do not have a gubernatorial candidate yet, and that is why I am in court to ensure that the nomination be cancelled or I be declared the candidate so that I will implement the party's lofty policies and programmes in the state."
The aspirant further stated that the recently flagging off of construction of a power substation in Ibiono Ibom by the federal government is a confirmation of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC's love for the state.
He added, "at APC we do not do politics and concentrate on elections without serving the people. While campaigns are going on, we are still delivering on what we promised the people.
"His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari made a promise to the people of the state that he will improve power generation in Akwa Ibom State. The substation that we have in Itu is 15 MVA, and that is is what is supplying Uyo, Itu and Ibiono Ibom, and that is why they are rationing light. That is why sometimes they have to take light in Uyo and other areas in order to serve other areas like Itu, Ibiono Ibom and Ini.
"I requested that (substation) from him (President) as Adviser to him on National Assembly Matters, and when I finished that and got appointed as Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, we followed it up through the award process and it was awarded."
Disclosing that the total contract sum of the project is 6.5bn Naira, the former National Assembly member Ita Enang also stated that that the substation will power Ibiono Ibom, Itu, Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State, Obio Usiere and Odukpani in Cross River State; Arochukwu and few other communities in Abia State.
He assured the contractors of utmost cooperation of Ibiono Ibom people.
Engr Philip Okpanefe, Director of Transmission in the Federal Ministry of Power, Engr Afolabi Ademola of JAMEC West Africa - the contractors of the project, were among the delegation received at Ididep, Ibiono Ibom site of the project.
